Sylvia Plachy Talk - July 14

Sylvia Plachy is not one of my favorite photographers, but certainly one that would be interesting to hear talk this coming week. She appeared on the documentary “Photographers at work,” which if you haven’t seen yet, then you need to find it. We have the luxury of Tivo, so it just dropped into our play list. Also look out for “The genius of Photography” on Ovation TV.

Here is an absolute gem of a video of outtakes from that show. I don’t agree with it all, but definitely think that being too focused on the process and the technical part of how the camera works is an important sentiment to remember. Sylvia Plachy says in this video, “I just like to look for things that are hidden, that are not necessarily on the surface, I am interested in what is beyond the surface.” The photograph I have chosen to show of hers seems to contradict this idea.
