Making Life Difficulter

I think it’s great that we’ve had such advances in technology, but honestly I think we’re on a downward spiral when someone’s recording news worthy content on an ipod nano (and getting in my shot)…

I was made to shoot a show from the back balcony not that long ago, and this was the opening scene. A whole audience of front row photographers who probably had their content on youtube/flickr before I had anything out.

George Parrino’s Studio at SUNY Purchase

I was helping my old thesis advisor clean out some of his studio today. It mainly consisted of throwing away boxes of old baby clothes (his son is now 27) and sorting through paperwork. It reminded me of what an amazing person and artist he is…

The painting on the left is a portrait of him done by one of his more recent students. The painting on the right is his most recent work.

This is my favorite piece by him, done many years ago I suspect. Unfortunately the stretchers have started to warp.

“If you see the Buddha, hit him with a stick” he would often tell in class.

Canon 85mm F1.8

If you’ve never been to B&H, looking to buy a lens, and come home with some pictures that look like this, then you’re not an official camera nerd.

I ended up buying the 85mm 1.8, but was close to spending all my pocket money on the 135mm 2.0. I’m saving up to upgrade to the 70-200mm 2.8.

It’s not easy being GREEN

It was George’s final school production this weekend. It was a musical based around the music of Joe Raposo who wrote a lot of the songs on Sesame St. The kermit song made my mum cry every time…

Best Business Card EVER

I was covering an event and was handed this business card from someone with a point and shoot and a Marcel Duchamp T-shirt. He was taking pictures of all of the women and children at the party.

My Amazing Grandmother

Grandma

My undergraduate professor George Parrino would cringe whenever a student made any art about their grandmother, their pet cat or their favorite cookie. But now I’m not making ‘art’ anymore, here is a nice portrait of my grandma sitting on my parents porch.
